Missy Yuhl collection of dog show photography
Scope and Contents
The collection is comprised of both black and white and color negatives. They are primarily win shots with occasional candid, action and trophy shots. Yuhl worked from 1974 to 1996 at primarily western state dog shows including those put on by the Kennel Club of Palm Springs, Inc, Kennel Club of Beverly Hills, Bichon Frise Club of America, Great Dane Club of America, Houston Kennel Club, Las Vegas Kennel Club, Long Beach Kennel Club, Pasadena Kennel Club, Intermountain Kennel Club (Salt Lake City), Samoyed Club of America, Scottsdale Kennel Club, Sir Francis Drake Kennel Club, Superstition Kennel Club, Tucson Kennel Club, Ventura Kennel Club.
The negatives are primarily single, 2.5 x 2.5 inches with occasionally double shots. Poor quality negatives have been filed separately and marked by Yuhl. Generally, the negatives are marked with a “B,” or “BIS” or “Best in Show”.
Please note that this collection is only 70% processed. The current inventory is a useful indication of the date range, clubs, and geographic regions documented by this collection. Inquire with the Archivist if you are seeking an unlisted show or date.

Biographical / Historical
Missy Yuhl (d. April 2005), a native of Sylmar, California, apprenticed under legendary dog show photographer Joan Ludwig before she herself became one of the leading commercial photographers of the sport.

Abstract
The collection chronicles the over-25-year career of preimminent dog show photographer Missy Yuhl. It contains her negative files, chiefly win shots, from dog shows between 1974 and 1996. The bulk of the images are from shows west of the Missipippi River.
Arrangement
The negatives are housed within their original envelopes so as to maintain original information markings. Within each box they are loosely arranged by date, then alphabetically by dog show name.
As indicated in the container list, original inventories were unclear and multiple boxes may need to be consulted to locate select shows.
Provenance
The collection was donated by Tina Yuhl, daughter of the creator, in 2007.
