AKD 100.5 Breed and Club files , 1900 - present
Scope and Contents
The Breed and Club files are assembled from a wide variety of material which was collected by and/or submitted to the AKC Library & Archives, but never formally accessioned or cataloged. Most files include breed-specific article clippings and win shots from conformation shows. Often present are parent/regional breed club materials, such as Constitutions, bylaws, membership lists, breed standards (including illustrated), distribution materials, meeting minutes, and other administrative documents. Breed-specific pamphlets and small books, breed histories, pedigrees, ephemera (stud cards, holiday cards), small artwork, candid photographs, and show materials may also appear. These files serve as a "catch-all" for breed-specific materials that were not formerly donated by the club as part of an archival collection. These files may continue to grow.
Breed-specific clippings files were transferred from AKF 100.3 Subject Files

The individual breed files are followed by files on AKC Groups (Terriers, Hound, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Working, Herding, and Toys) Sporting/Working types of dog (e.g., Spaniels, Retrievers). Group files are followed by Miscellaneous Class breeds, Foundation Stock Service breeds, and finally by unrecognized breeds. Within each category, files are arranged alphabetically by breed name. Oversized items are housed in two separate boxes, with cross-reference notes on the regular files for researchers.
