AKC Art Collection of Rudolf Tauskey Photographs

"When Rudolph William Tauskey died in 1979 at the age of 91, he left behind a pictorial legacy of some of the past's greatest dogs. A proud man and a unique artist, Tauskey was the only official photographer ever retained by the American Kennel Club, a post he held from 1924 to 1942.
As a photographer, Tauskey was an undisputed master who developed his own film and was an expert retoucher. Negatives of his work clearly show his efforts to portray his clients' dogs in the best possible light.
The backdrop for most of Tauskey's dog photographs was his home in Saddle River, New Jersey, where the beautiful grounds and gardens complemented the animals. Mrs. Tauskey often contributed her talents as an excellent cook to provide bountiful meals before or after a photographic session.
Born in Budapest in 1888, Tauskey emigrated to the United States at the age of 17 and was introduced to photography while serving in the U.S. Army on the Mexican border during World War I.
