Biographical note

2009 AKC Non-Sporting Breeders of the Year Jean and Bob Hetherington bought the first Bulldog in 1962. Their first litter produced Ch. Hetherbull's Arrogance, who won the the Bulldog Club of America (BCA) specialty and Best of Breed at Westminster in 1966 at only two years old. He served as their main early stud force, ultimately elcxted to the BCA Producers Hall of Fame. They became deeply invested in the Bulldog community of breeders and exhibitors. Bob and Jean always owner-handled their show dogs, which came to also include Chow Chows, Brussels Griffons, and Wirehaired Dachshunds among others.Their dog Ch. Hetherbull Arrogant Impulse served as a mascot for Eastern Airlines, while their Bulldog Ch. Hetherbull's Bounty's Frigate set the breed Best in Show record of 52 wins. They also bred and trained Ch. Hetherbull Arrogant Lazarus, who because the first Champion Utility Dog titleholder of the breed in 1976. At that point they had over 30 champions in 15 years in the show ring, and were actually inspired to get into obedience training based off of Lazaraus's bad behavior.

Almost 50 years after their first time in the ring, they showed their 100th Bulldog. Both became AKC licensed judges and served as officers of the BCA, which elected Jean to its Hall of Fame, and members of the Bulldog Club of New Jersey and Westchester Kennel Club. From 1996 to 2006 she served as the AKC Director of Special Services.
