Abstract

Collection consists of 26 black-and-white photos assembled by Faye Bergman documenting her activities as a Boxer breeder and show judge in the 1940s through 1960s, a period considered a golden era for the breed. Highlights include many shots by famed West Coast West Coast show photographer Joan Ludwig, frequent coverage of well-known handler George Sangster, footage of the Bergmans' Jamaye Kennels in El Monte, California, and whimsical portraits of Boxer puppies.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: Files are chiefly composed of correspondence between club/breed representatives and various executives and departments of the AKC, and internal memoranda. Subjects may include the process of acquiring breed recognition, the establishment of a club, key changes to the breed standard and/or breed classification, club membership, breed stud book matters, registration of foundation stock, and educating breed judges.
