General

This collection is comprised of all of the personal scrapbooks, notebooks, journals, and photo ablums collected by the AKC Library & Archives over the course of its history. Information about the creators, as well as provenance, is recorded whenever available. These are piecemeal acqusitions that were never formally cataloged prior to 2017, and researchers are highly encouraged to review these previously hidden materials and to report findings.

Generally, the scrapbooks are unique primary resources offering intimate glimpses into dog owners, fanciers, sportsmen, breeders, exhibitors, and researchers across the 20th century. They commonly contain photographs, press clippings, catalog and event results, correspondence, pedigrees, certificates, and various ephemera, including show ribbons. Some are focused on their own specific kennels and dogs, while others seek to thoroughly document and research specific breeds.

For further information about specific scrapbook contents and context, consult the Archivist.
