Award certificate from DPC of Greater Cleveland, 1959
Scope and Contents
Eleanor Houston (nee Hill) Carpenter was an early importer of Doberman Pinschers from Germany in the mid to late 1930s, including notable Dobermans Ch. Cherloc v. Raufelsen and Ch. Assy von Illerblick, and produced many champions as a breeder. Carpenter also wrote educational articles on Dobermans and was active in the DPCA and as a judge. Her Pennsylvania property on which the kennel originated was seized by eminent domain in the 1950s.
The collection contains numerous images (photographs, slides, negatives, and glass plate negatives) of Dobermans from Jerry Run Kennels, along with educational slides of a Doberman skeleton. Eleanor and her husband, Rhys Carpenter, who was a faculty member at Bryn Mawr College, are occasionally pictured. Also included are educational Doberman articles written by Carpenter; pedigrees, awards, and breeding records of Jerry Run Kennels; correspondence and clippings; a few National Specialty show records; and a scrapbook memorializing Carpenter's kennel and Dobermans. This collection was donated by Grace Moore to the DPCA.
