Canaan Dog. Breed standard and recognition, 1985-1996
Scope and Contents
Files are chiefly composed of correspondence between club/breed representatives and various executives and departments of the AKC, and internal memoranda. Subjects may include the process of acquiring breed recognition, the establishment of a club, key changes to the breed standard and/or breed classification, club membership, breed stud book matters, registration of foundation stock, and educating breed judges. Files may also contain related records, such as photographs, pedigrees, breed standards, clippings, club registries prior to AKC membership, registrations, and other materials. Club publications (such as newsletters and periodicals) and show catalogs may also be present, although some have been moved to more relevant collections (in which case, a "Separated Record" form has been placed in the file in place of the removed item).
Notably, club presentations to the AKC for Stud Book entry, admission to the Miscellaneous Group or promotion to a more specific Group are included in this collection. These presentations often include club Constitutions and Bylaws, membership lists, breed and club histories, statistics, breed standard, articles, clippings, and sample club publications and show catalogs.
