Theodore C. Hollander collection of Airedale Terrier scrapbooks, 1933-1941
Scope and Contents
These ten scrapbooks document the course of Hollander's involvement in dogdom as an Airedale breeder and exhibitor in the 1930s and early 1940s, beginning with early correspondence concerning the acquisition of his foundation stock. The hand-annotated books mostly feature news clippings (breed articles, show results and writeups) but also include official documentation (licenses, registration), judges critiques, pedigrees, photographs, and show and club ephemera suck as tickets stubs, entry slips, and event invitations. Some adminitrative material from the Airedale Terrier Club of America is present, while other clubs represented include the Eastern Dog Club, Ladies Dog Club, and Morris & Essex Kennel Club.

Biographical / Historical
Airedale Terrier fancier Theodore C. “Ted” Hollander bred and showed under the kennel name Craigston (registered in 1936). He showed his first homebred dog, Ch. Michael Geste of Craigston to its championship in 1935.
Hollander served as President of the Eastern Dog Club and the Airedale Terrier Club of New England, and after a tour of duty as a Naval officer in the Pacific during WWII, turned Craigston over to his son who, as of 2019, continues to breed and show Airedales under this same kennel name. Hollander then went on for many years to be a well known and respected Terrier judge, while also serving from 1955 to 1963 as Eastern Dog Club’s Delegate to the American Kennel Club.
