Eighty three 35mm color slides of amateur photography taken by fanciers Jack and Olive Cook at the 1942 Toledo Kennel Club Show and Detroit Kennel Club shows in Michigan. The images include many candids of benched dogs, in addition to groomers, junior handlers, spectators, vendor stands, and trophy tables.

It is rare to view so many candid and behind-the-scenes images from 20th-century dog shows, but this collection also represents the earliest color images of dogs shows held by the AKC Library & Archives.

Breeds featured include the Afghan Hound, American Staffordshire Terrier, Basset Hound, Bedlington Terrier, Borzoi, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Bull Terrier, Collie, Dalmatian, Dachshund, Great Dane, Greyhound, Irish Setter, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Wolfhound, Labrador Retriever, Poodle, Samoyed, Schipperke, St. Bernard, and Wire Fox Terrier.

Also present are a few images that may be the Cooks with a pet bulldog.

Arrangement

Most slides were numbered and labeled with the show at which it was taken and the breed and/or other identifying information, although some slides have no markings at all. Slides from the Detroit Kennel Club show are followed by the Toledo Kennel Club show and are arranged in ascending number order. It appears that the slides may have been edited after the creator numbered them, as some numbers are skipped.
