Biographical / Historical
Alfred and Julia Bissell hunted with a Beagle pack before starting a Basset Hound pack in 1932, after Julia complained she had difficulty keeping up with the Beagles. Their foundation hounds were assembled from the Kilsyth pack of Gerald Livinston. They selected the name of Stockford for their kennels, as their country home was located off Stockford Road near Chadds Ford, Penssylvania. Julia regularly competed with her hond pack at shows including the New York Hound Show and the Bryn Mawr Hound Show, and prized an invitation to an exhibiiton show at Madison Square Garden. She was the only woman Master and Huntsman along all the packs, and led the only Basset Hound pack in competition with other pack hound breeds.
